Do you melt at the thought of a deliciously gooey grilled cheese sandwich? We are excited to invite you to participate in the 1st Annual Great Grilled Cheese Cook Off! You may enter into one of the categories: Amateur or Professional for your chance to win great prizes and bragging rights for your very own original grilled cheese recipe.
The Amateur category is for those individuals that do not cook professionally. You must reside full time in Calgary or a surrounding municipality. Your recipe must be an original recipe created by yourself. We recommend completing your own test trials and taste tasting with your personal circle of grilled cheese fanatics in advance.
- COBS Bread at Willow Park Village has generously sponsored bread for the event. All registered participants will receive a competitor package with a competitor number. This will give you access up to 3 different types of complimentary loaves a bread for your test trials. The bread choices include: Sourdough, Pumpernickle & Pane di’Casa.
- Springbank Cheese Co. at Willow Park is sponsoring the cheese and other ingredients for samples served at the event. Choose your cheeses and other ingredients based on readily available products at Springbank Cheese Co. or a local grocery store.
- Any choices of ingredients outside of the guidelines may be used if produced in a commercial kitchen and you cover the cost/supply for up to 150 samples for event day.
- Retail food costs per sandwich are not to exceed $8.00.
You will be competing for the bragging rights for the “Big Cheese” title and prizes awarded to the top three competitors from the Amateur Category. All entrants will also be entered for a chance to win speciality raffle baskets. The top three winners for each category will receive a Cheese of the Month Club package: First Place – 12 month club; Second Place – 6 month club; and Third Place – 3 month club.
CHEESE OF THE MONTH CLUB:
Enjoy CHEESE compliments of Springbank Cheese Co. Each month you will pick up your hand-selected cheese at your LOCAL cheese shop. Selections are chosen from our combination of Canadian inspirations and International delicacies. Discover a new flavour or enjoy a long-forgotten favourite, complete with tasting notes. From month-to-month the Mongers at Springbank Cheese Co. strive to make different, unique, and where appropriate, seasonal selections to please the cheese novice or expert “foodie” alike. Keep it for yourself or give the gift of cheese to a friend or loved one.
HOW DO I ENTER?
Stage 1: Fill out the preliminary entry information below.
Stage 2: You will be emailed an information package to outline the rules and itinerary for event day.
Stage 3: Submit your personal original recipe with all forms completed from your competitor package by August 31st, 2017 by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Stage 4: A selection of competitors’ recipes will be chosen for the final judging event. Finalists chosen to compete at the cook off will be advised by September 7th. The Amateur recipes will be prepared by the Springbank Cheese Co. team, to insure food safety requirements are maintained. Each competitor must be present to represent their recipe during the event. Amateur entrants will assist with any final recipe preparation needed at Jerome’s Appliance Gallery before the doors open for ticket holders. Entrants will also assist with serving their samples at their assigned station.
Stage 5: The top 3 winners will be determined by a combined voting system of 40% based on attendees’ votes and 60% of the vote will be determined by a separate judging panel.
Stage 6: Great Grilled Cheese Champions will be announced and awarded prizes at the event.
